So a few weeks back I was contacted by Mike Gordon at the Honolulu Advertiser. He said he wanted to meet up talk and get some pictures for an articles on fixed gears. Ever since Aloha Fixed started getting press I've been a bit cautious about how we'll be portrayed. I mean I understand from a paper's perspective how they'd want to show what we do everyday. It seems exciting to most and I guess thats why we all enjoy riding.
After meeting up with Mike I was impressed by his understanding of these bikes and him just being basically a good guy. We all said alot of things and shot photos with Andrew Shimabuku, but cringed at the same time thinking of what stupid shit we said which may end up in the paper. Article came out today in the paper and I'm still sort of cringing. Nothing bad on Mike's part, who I felt a nice non-bias article and shined alot of light on fixies to the general public. Just more on my part for silly shit I say.
Here's some of andrews shots and a collection of silly things said.-Lyan
"Sometimes you have to go into the other lane, and that's kind of scary," he said. "But if it's the back of someone's SUV or the other lane, the other lane looks pretty good."-Hammy
"You can create a bike that reflects you as a person," he said. "That's one of the cool things."-Hammy
"He occasionally locked the rear wheel of his lime-green bike and slid sideways to slow himself with a dicey maneuver called skidding."-Mike Gordon
"The misconception the public has is these are bikes without brakes," he said. "But once you learn skidding, they are perfectly safe."-06
"It let me have both," he said. "The tricks of skateboarding and the ability to get around."-myself(cheeeeeeeesssssy)
"I like to think I have enough control that I don't need it," he said. "They just seem like they get in the way."-myself(not so bad-ass)
"Some people get insulted by the fact that you're using a racing bike," Lau said. "We just want to go out and ride."-myself(i just wanna ride!)
"There was glass in my face and my bike was folded,"-myself(sorta goes against me saying i have control)
